If you search for “digital marketing in Mérida,” you’ll find dozens of options: agencies, ad specialists, community managers, designers and professionals who do a bit of everything. They all promise to grow your business, but they don’t all work the same way, and they’re not all a good fit for every business.
This guide will help you choose wisely, without going just on price or on whoever sounds the most convincing.
The three options you’ll find
1. Marketing agencies
A team with several departments: sales, accounts, design, paid media. They can handle a lot of volume, but there’s usually an account executive between you and the person doing the work, and the agency’s overhead shows up in the price. I compare them in depth in freelancer or marketing agency: what’s right for your business.
2. Single-discipline specialists
People who are very good at one thing: just ads, just social media or just design. They work well if you already have everything else covered. The challenge is that you’ll have to coordinate several vendors: the ads specialist needs good creative, and the designer isn’t the one making sure your messages get followed up.
3. Independent all-in-one professional
One person who handles content, paid ads and automation, and makes sure all the pieces work together. You get direct communication, a single person accountable and a consistent strategy from start to finish. For most small businesses and local businesses, it’s the most efficient option.
Questions to ask before hiring
- Who will I be talking to day to day? The person doing the work, or a middleman?
- What exactly does the service include? How many pieces of content, on which platforms, and whether it includes scripting, editing, paid ads and reports.
- How will I see progress? A dashboard, a calendar, deliverables with clear dates.
- How will you report results to me? Ask them to explain what they’ll measure and how, without jargon.
- Whose name are the accounts in? Your social media, your ad accounts and your leads should belong to you.
- Can I cancel whenever I want? Be wary of mandatory minimum contracts.
- Can you show me real work? A portfolio with real brands says more than any promise.
Red flags
- Guaranteed results in a short time. Serious marketing is built with consistency and measurement; nobody can guarantee sales in a week.
- Accounts in the vendor’s name. If you ever leave, you could lose your social media or your ad history.
- Reports full of terms you don’t understand. A good report tells you how many leads came in, where they came from and what they cost.
- They only talk about likes and followers. What matters is how many genuinely interested people message you.
- There’s no assessment. If they pitch you a package without understanding your business, it’s a generic package.
- The lowest price as the only selling point. Cheap usually ends up expensive when the content doesn’t attract anyone.
The advantage of working with someone in Mérida
Hiring someone who lives here has concrete advantages:
- They know the local market: how customers in Yucatán buy, which areas are growing and which messages connect.
- They can film at your business: real footage of your space, your team and your products is worth more than any stock image.
- You can meet in person when the project calls for it.
And if your business is in another city, working online works just as well: an assessment over video call, progress on a shared dashboard and communication over WhatsApp.

How I work
I’m Alejandro Azarcoya, an independent digital marketing professional in Mérida, with a master’s degree in Digital Marketing from UADY (the Autonomous University of Yucatán), certifications from Meta, Google and TikTok, and more than 8 years creating content. I handle everything digital for your business in one place:

- Digital advertising on Meta, TikTok and Google, with reports you can understand.
- Automation and CRM to answer and follow up with every lead.
- Video, photorealistic visualization, branding and websites when your project needs them.
The process is clear: assessment, proposal and strategy, production with visible progress and results measured every month. Your accounts are always yours, and you can cancel whenever you want. If you want to see how the pieces fit together, here I explain what a 360 marketing strategy is.
